La Bruguera de Púbol : Cultivating Regenerative Futures Through Agroforestry Collaboration

Located in the serene landscape of Púbol, Catalonia, La Bruguera de Púbol is an eco-conscious estate that seamlessly blends history, art, and sustainability. Originally constructed between 1978 and 1981 for Catalan landscape painter Francesc d’Assís Casademont, affectionately known as “Le Vieux,” a contemporary of Salvador Dalí, the estate was fully modernized between 2015 and 2019. Today, it stands as a testament to eco-friendly living, offering a unique venue for retreats, holidays, and events .

A Shared Vision for Regenerative Agriculture

In a collaborative effort to promote food sovereignty and regenerative livelihoods, Ageco brought together the Kessel and Duff-Wilson families to design and implement a one-hectare agroforestry field adjacent to the estate. This innovative cropping system aims to cultivate a diverse array of fruits, nuts, medicinal plants, and vegetables, enhancing the resilience of the local community and fostering sustainable agricultural practices .

Integrating Art, Nature, and Sustainability

The estate’s rich history as an art gallery and studio continues to influence its current endeavors. The former Casademont Art Gallery, beautifully renovated in 2017, now serves as a space for creative, active, and well-being-related activities . This integration of art and nature provides a holistic environment where guests can engage in artistic expression while being immersed in the tranquility of the surrounding landscape.

A Commitment to Regenerative Tourism

La Bruguera’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond its physical infrastructure. The estate operates on 100% renewable energy, utilizing solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and a biomass boiler fueled by estate-generated trimmings and trunks. This commitment to regenerative tourism reflects the estate’s mission to provide guests with a place to focus on personal development without compromising the environment .

Through this collaboration, we exemplify how art, agriculture, and sustainability can converge to create a resilient and thriving regenerative business. The ongoing agroforestry project not only contributes to local food systems but also serves as a model for integrating ecological practices into everyday life.
